Lint under my iPhone screen.

July 27th, 2009 by tgmaniac

I noticed some lint collecting under the iPhone screen a couple of months ago but it didn’t really bother me at the time. After a couple of weeks I noticed more lint collecting under the screen and it really started to bother me. I didn’t want to tear open my iPhone and try to fix it myself but I also didn’t know if Apple would replace my phone just because of the lint. I thought about it and decided it was worth the wait in the crowded Apple store to see if they would fix it but I first needed to see if my phone was still covered under warranty. I search Google and found that you can check your iPhone warranty by going to https://selfsolve.apple.com/GetWarranty.do and entering in your iPhone serial number which can be found by going to Setting, General, About and then scroll to the bottom of the page. It turns out I had 3 days left on my warranty so I hurried up and schedule an appointment with Apple Genius Bar http://www.apple.com/retail/geniusbar/. I arrived at the crowded Apple store 5 minutes ahead of my appointment and was at the bar 20 minutes later. I asked if there was anything they could do about the lint collecting under my screen. The Apple genius quickly took my phone, plugged the serial number into his Mac and then said “Give me 5 minutes and I will have a new screen put in for you”. Five minutes later I had my lint free iPhone in my hand. Overall the process was very smooth and not a big ordeal like dealing with AT&T to try and get a non-iPhone fixed. I will probably get the extended warranty on my next iPhone just in case.
